MG Building Materials was established with one goal in mind - to provide homeowners and professional builders with high-quality lumber at the lowest price possible.
MG Building Materials was founded in 1972 in San Antonio, Texas by Maurice Grothues and his four sons. The company operated out of a small yard on New Laredo Highway for 5 years, but it didn’t take long to start growing and expanding. With the third generation of the family now joining in, MG is one of the few family-owned independents of its size in South Texas.
Today, MG operates 5 retail stores serving South Texas and the Texas Hill Country with stores in San Antonio, Pleasanton, Corpus Christi, Kerrville, and Uvalde. Each one boasts a wide selection of products and a variety of construction services designed to address a customer's building needs, including services for Millwork, Roofing, as well as Truss and Wall Panels.
The MG Wholesale Division is a 20-acre lumberyard designed to address the company's customer base comprising of production, custom, commercial, and multi-family builders. With our large inventory and workspace, our Wholesale division can cater to the construction needs of the professional builder, no matter the size of the job at hand.
Whether it's a small home improvement project or a large-scale commercial project, we are committed to helping customers in finishing their building projects at the shortest time possible, living up to our reputation of being the one-stop shop where the pros go to get the building products they need.
